Loop
and infrared systems
A
loop system helps people who use a hearing aid or loop listener to hear
sounds more clearly by reducing background noise.
Infrared systems are an alternative to loop systems. You may find loop
or infrared systems installed in some places such as theatres, cinemas,
banks, shopping centres or train stations. Smaller systems can be
installed in the home

Text phones :
People who are severely or profoundly deaf may use a TTY
(Teletypewriter). TTYs have a display screen and a keyboard so you can
type what you want to say and read what is being typed in reply.
If
you want to contact someone who has a TTY you can use the
National Relay Service
on
133 677. You can speak via the operator and they will relay the message
to the deaf person. |

Listening to the television, radio or hi-fi.
A
neckloop, listening aid, loop amplifier or pair of headphones can help
make listening to the television, video, radio, CD or DVD player easier,
and more enjoyable, by making it louder and clearer. Subtitles are also
available on some TV programmes and DVDs.
