Advice
Your Workplace hearing communications needs may best met with the use of a personal FM system or a volume controlled telephone enabling you to hear better in the workplace and in meetings - we can demonstrate a range of devices that may suit.
Information
We have a huge range of information and resources available on our website in the Information segment, in addition to our offices in Holder.
Workplace Assessments and Hearing Loop Installation
Specific information we can provide to inquirers can include the opportunities for funding available when you choose your hearing device. We can provide suggestions for how you may secure workplace funding for the installation of a hearing loop in the workplace.
We recognise that each person is different, particularly for workplace assessments - so we can work with you, your supervisor and Human Resource Services personnel in assessing the office, making recommendations and applying for support funding such as Job Access. We also provide long-term assistance to individuals to integrate assistive devices into their overall workday.
We also provide Hearing Awareness Training to workplaces as part of Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and faciliate a better understanding among work personnel for supporting their hearing impaired colleagues, such as how they cancommunicate better, how they can assist a visitor or external guest with meeting room set up, and how to make the overall work environment safe and welcoming for a person living with a hearing loss or deafness.
Referrals
We can point you in the right direction for other services you may need. For example, perhaps you have just moved to Canberra and have a child who is hearing impaired, have a hearing impairment yourself, or know of someone who might need some Canberra-specific information?
We can direct you to our affiliates who assist with specific groups - such as the Canberra Deaf Children's Association or The Shepherd Centre. We can also direct you to the Hearing Services Team within the ACT Education Department.
